Currently, there are 7.4 billion people in the world and it continues to grow rapidly and the demand to meet the needs for our growing population remains to be an overwhelming task. Agriculture is the practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products. Deforestation is by-product of agriculture in which we must cut down trees for agriculture. We are losing our natural resources to meet the demands of the population. The pressure to meet the needs is contributing to global warming, animal extinctions and uprooting indigenous people from their homes. There are more than 70 billion land animals that are raised for human consumption each year. There are roughly 36 football fields of forest that are hacked, burned and destroyed every minute to meet the demands of our population. Indonesia was named the â€Å"Fastest Forest Destroyer† in 2008 by the Guinness World Records book. In Indonesia, as their forest habitat is cleared, endangered species such as the orangutan, Borneo elephant and Sumatran tiger are being pushed closer to extinction. Smallholders and indigenous people who have inhabited and protected the forest for generations are often brutally driven from their land.
